Virtuous Girlhood

I had the pleasure of designing Virtuous Girlhood, a blog for young women. I usually don't do Wordpress designs just because they can get very complicated, but because RJ had a very clean and minimalist look in mind, I was able to work with an existing theme, tweaking colors and adding graphic elements. I took some custom photos for this design. I like the cheery, light colors relieved by the bright red. Below is the matching button. Click either image to visit the site live. My dear friends Hannah and Esther wrote a cookbook full of delicious recipes that all include a common ingredient... oats! These girls are seriously talented cooks, not to mention photographers! They did all their own photography for the book. I did the cover for this eBook and also did the interior layout and design. Path of Grass

This was my first time designing an actual book cover - not an ebook, a real print book! Path of Grass is written by Savannah Liston. Here's a synopsis of the book (sorry, I haven't read it yet so I can't give you a personal "review" on it):

A child believed to be an orphan grows up in a German convent during the turbulent years of Hitler's rise. A newly-wed couple in rural Iowa is separated by World War II, but strangely united through an encounter on the outskirts of a German village. A man trying to rebuild his family and life in America after his wife leaves finds himself imprisoned for an unknown crime. A young woman visiting the United States from war-torn Uzbekistan is told that her family has been killed in a military raid. And not long after she marries an American man her husband mysteriously disappears.

Path of Grass is a story of liberty and courage against tyranny. It is a story of people who chose a journey of individual freedom rather than sacrificing their lives to an oppressive government.

This was such a fun blog to design! I've wanted to do this style for some time now. I had taken the floral photo last week and when I took it, I had a header in mind and lo and behold! I got to use it this week! Samantha was a model customer and it came together extremely quickly. I also made a button for the site. Click on the images to see it live!

Eleganza Strings

This website was a lot of fun to design! I don't think I had done a music themed site before. Eleganza Strings is a duet of young, talented musicians, available for playing beautiful harp and violin music for special events. They also teach! I have to say this ranks up among my favorite designs. They wanted a warm, tan and brown color scheme but also wanted an elegant feel.

Here is a full site design I did for a young woman who has just started a business creating beautiful handmade jewelry. She creates her jewelry using high quality materials including Swarovski crystals (my personal favorite!), pearls and silver chains. She does beautiful work - I'd encourage you to check it out!

This was my first ebook cover! It is a simple cover using an image with text in two fonts, with some transparency. The ebook is a pregnancy ebook (obviously!), journal style with a Christian emphasis.

Here's a vertical banner I did for FunWithMojo.com. They sell stuff-it-yourself stuffed animal kits and as you can see from the banner, there is also a career opportunity for those who want to sell them too! This banner used drop-shadow text, a colored background and an image.

Jennifer from Minutes4Mom wanted a header to match her site that would fit her theme - moms who don't have much time. She wanted a modern look but not "hip" like so many mom blogs out there. I have to add that Jennifer was a fantastic customer - she gave exact colors and fonts and even drew a sketch of how she pictured it! Below are the banner and button that match.

Cross Country Bakers Buttons

Cross Country Bakers is a baking club for Christian ladies. Each month they pick a theme and a recipe for each week within the theme. Every week all participants make the recipe for that week and post a photo of their finished product along with their comments on how they liked the recipe. I made these two buttons using photos from two of their past recipes.

Pure Little Ladies Ministry

Miss Toria from Pure Little Ladies Ministry, an online blog/magazine for Christian girls, wanted an updated look for their site. She wanted something feminine, pink, with a flower. We used an image of a waterlily she took, a script font and put that same image in the background to fill it out a bit. Then I added a double line border (single on the button) to add a little extra "oomph." I also designed a blog background of the site to match. *Edit: Miss Toria has since moved her site to another location with a new design. Click here to visit the new website!

Liberty and Law

The Liberty and Law website is all about - well, liberty and law. :-) They wanted a professional look that also evoked an image of the beginning of this country. They asked to have the U.S. Constitution in the background, and if I could put a quill pen and inkstand image on it. I just so happened to have photographed a quill pen and inkstand a while back, so that image worked perfectly.
So this header and button involved an image background, text, and a custom photo.

Liberty Day

I designed this header based off of a flyer for Liberty Day and made it look similar. Liberty Day is an event that commemorates the day Patrick Henry gave his famous Liberty or Death speech, so I put "Give me liberty, or give me death!" as the background. I added a couple of photos in vintage frames from previous events and of course used a colonial style font. *Edit: Liberty Day later had me completely overhaul their site and redesign it - click here to view the new look!

Critters Who Care

CrittersWhoCare.com already had a black and white themed design for their website but wanted a colorful, snappy header to liven it up. I did a black and white gradient background, and since their theme is stuffed animals, used pawprints along with stars which were a part of their design.

Recherché Sisters

Emily Rose and Danielle Shirley of Recherché Sisters wanted graphics with an old fashioned feel centered on a sewing theme to go with their business - selling handmade home and personal items. Danielle sent me a photo of some fabric she thought would be good for the background, and I added the falling needle and the thread.
